"My name is Patricia Sanchez, and I believe that one of the most important things we can give children is a quality education so they can become successful professionals in the future. My journey to becoming a teacher has not been easy. I graduated from the University of

I had the privilege of working with Tessa Cain at Seguin ISD, where she served as our instructional coach. From the very beginning, she made a tremendous impact on my growth as an educator. One of the most valuable things she taught me was how to truly understand the TEKS—looking at how they spiral from grade level to grade level, identifying which standards were new for each grade, and using that knowledge to intentionally plan instruction. At a time when the district wasn't providing lesson plans, Tessa taught me how to build effective lessons using the TEKS alongside the instructional resources we had available. I have known Tessa Cain for 6 years as an employer, colleague, and most importantly as a
friend. I was hired as her administrative assistant for Gonzales ISD where she was the
Elementary Education Director for the Curriculum and Instruction department. I was very young and new to the education world with very little experience, but as she has
mentioned to me time and time again, she saw my potential to be a leader. During my
time as an administrative assistant, I knew I wanted to further my education and become
an early childhood teacher. Tessa was a true mentor to me who led by example and set up
